soccer’s tangled web part 1

Soccer is big in this household, especially with a particular five year old. And sometimes this love of his leads us down new lines of inquiry and to new interests. Flags, geography, history to name a few (save for parts 2-? at some later date), but lately it has been music. This song, Baiana, by Barbatuques is one we have been enjoying quite a bit as of late. By the way, did you know that Ronaldo’s famous haircut highlighted in this video is known as the displaced eyebrow? That is just awesome.

Here’s Baiana being performed live:

As much as Christian enjoys dancing to Baiana, no soccer-related song will ever replace his burning love for this one:

Girl in motion

This morning Klara took part in a youth triathlon. Watching these events and witnessing the fun these kids are having and the drive they have to complete the whole event is truly inspiring.  The excitement Klara had been building up in Klara over the past few weeks waned briefly into moments of self doubt this morning, but as suddenly as that doubt appeared it seemed to disappear again. This girl was determined to just enjoy it.  To me that is one of the most incredible aspects of her, something that returns over and over as I watch her grow up before my unbelieving eyes – she faces her fears and doubts in a way that I am unsure I would ever be able to do and somehow just turns them into the drive to propel her through the challenge with a smile on her face.

We’re still here!

Hi out there! Here are two films the kiddos and I have worked on. The first we made in Spring 2010 and the other one in Spring 2011.  We had a wonderful time making both of these and I enjoyed observing the kids work together to construct the storylines, “compose” some original pieces for the films (plus throw in a little “Ode to Joy”).  Some of my favorite  moments as a parent are these projects that we all seem to be drawn to and work together on for extended periods of time. Strangely such moments  are nearly impossible to plan, in fact planning such grand schemes seems to lead to failure. But sometimes we all seem to be on the same wavelength and we work together and have a great time to boot!
